How to request fmla for mental health?

My therapist recommended I take some time off for my mental health, and mentioned something called FMLA. How do I go about officially requesting FMLA for mental health reasons from my company? I'm not sure about the process.

I am not completely sure about the exact legal terms since FMLA is mostly an international policy, but when I had to take stress leave for my health, I had to submit a proper doctor's note to our HR department. Please check your company's specific handbook first.

Just like managing chronic physical conditions, taking official medical leave requires proper documentation. You will need a registered psychiatrist or therapist to fill out the medical certification forms verifying that you need continuous care.

Look, if you need medical leave for mental health, don't beat around the bush. Get a formal diagnosis and certificate from a certified psychiatrist, and mail it to your HR. They are legally bound to process it if your company falls under these guidelines.

HR rules can be quite strict, haan. You should talk to your doctor first so they can help you write the medical necessity letter, and then submit it to your company. Just be clear about the duration you need, na.

My son had to take a medical break from his job last year due to severe clinical anxiety. We worked closely with his doctor to get the official medical certificate and submitted it to HR. They were very understanding, so please focus on getting the doctor's support first.
