How to remove bad dandruff?

My scalp has been so flaky lately, and it's making my hair look really dull. Someone at the salon told me I have 'bad dandruff' and suggested I try some home remedies. What really works to get rid of it permanently?

Applying warm coconut oil mixed with a few drops of lemon juice can help clear mild dandruff flakes. But if your scalp is red, bleeding, or very itchy, please see a dermatologist instead of trying home remedies.

I had terrible dandruff that wouldn't go away with regular shampoos. I started using a prescribed ketoconazole shampoo twice a week, and my scalp cleared up completely in less than a month.

My scalp has become extremely dry and flaky recently. Should I apply curd on my hair to soothe it, or will that make the dandruff worse?

I used to have bad dandruff every winter. I personally found that washing my hair with lukewarm water instead of very hot water helped stop my scalp from drying out and flaking.

I know how embarrassing and stressful it feels when white flakes fall on your dark clothes. Please don't worry, it's a very common issue and a dermatologist can easily resolve it with a good medicated lotion.
