How to relieve tooth pain from tmj?

My jaw has been clicking and sometimes locking, and now I'm getting tooth pain, especially in my molars. My dentist said it could be TMJ. What can I do to relieve this tooth pain?

TMJ pain is the ultimate punishment for a foodie because chewing on sweet, crispy jalebis becomes a nightmare. I had to shift to eating soft misal pav and mashed foods for a whole week to give my jaw some rest. Keep your jaw relaxed and stick to liquid or very soft items for now.

My teenage daughter started getting this jaw and tooth pain due to stress during her board exams. I taught her some gentle jaw-stretching exercises and started applying a warm damp cloth to her jawline before bed. It really helped ease the tightness, but do make sure they aren't grinding their teeth at night.

I have seen many people mistake TMJ issues for cavities because the referred pain feels exactly like a toothache. Applying a warm compress to the side of your face and avoiding chewing gum can help calm the joint down. A custom night guard from your dentist is often the best long-term solution.

Joint pain and muscle stiffness can sometimes get worse if your thyroid levels are fluctuating, which is what I personally experience. I highly recommend visiting your doctor to get your blood work done and checking if your jaw alignment needs attention. Proper medical guidance is always better than guessing.

I have tried everything from clove oil to ice packs for my jaw pain. What actually worked best was massage therapy; gently rubbing the masseter muscle right below the cheekbone with warm coconut oil. It releases the tension and relieves the pressure on the teeth beautifully.

Clenching the jaw due to work stress is a big trigger for TMJ and it can also affect your blood pressure. I had to consciously practice mindfulness and keep getting my regular health checkups to ensure my lifestyle was balanced. Try to keep your teeth apart during the day to prevent jaw strain.
