How to relieve tmj jaw pain?

I've been having this clicking sound in my jaw and sometimes a dull ache, especially when I chew or yawn big. My dentist mentioned it could be TMJ. What can I do to relieve this jaw pain?

Avoid chewing very hard foods like sugarcane or hard nuts for a few days. Eating soft foods like khichdi and doing mild warm water fermentation on the side of your face helps quiet down the pain easily.

TMJ pain can be so exhausting and frustrating because it hurts to even speak or eat. I used to cry from the constant dull ache in my ears and jaw. Please be gentle with yourself, eat soft foods, and know that it does get better.

Keep your neck and upper back posture in check, as bad posture puts extra load on your jaw joints. Doing basic neck mobility exercises and keeping yourself well-hydrated helps reduce muscle spasms in the jaw area.

For TMJ pain, applying a warm compress for 10 minutes can relax the jaw muscles. You can also take a mild muscle relaxant if your doctor recommends it. Try to avoid opening your mouth too wide while yawning.

I noticed my jaw clenching gets worse when I am stressed and inactive. Going for a brisk 30-minute walk daily really helps me release overall body tension, which indirectly keeps my jaw relaxed. Give it a try.
