How to relieve stye pain?

I woke up with a painful stye on my eyelid this morning. It's swollen and really bothersome. What can I do at home to relieve the pain from this stye?

A warm compress is the best natural way to ease stye pain. Just dip a clean cotton cloth in warm water, squeeze it, and gently hold it over your closed eye for 5-10 minutes a few times a day. But if the redness spreads or your vision is affected, please see an eye doctor immediately.

Never try to squeeze or pop a stye as it will spread the infection to the rest of your eyelid. Use a warm compress to help it drain naturally and wash your hands thoroughly before and after touching your face. If it doesn't improve in a few days, a doctor might prescribe a mild antibiotic ointment.

Since I have diabetes, I have to be extremely careful with eye infections as they can take longer to heal. I always consult my ophthalmologist for proper antibiotic eye drops instead of trying to squeeze or pop it. Keep your blood sugar controlled as high sugar can worsen such infections.

I got a really painful stye right before my exams last semester because of sleeping late and rubbing my eyes constantly. I just used a warm washcloth compress while studying and avoided wearing my contact lenses for a week. It cleared up on its own, but don't touch it with dirty hands!

My doctor told me that a stye is basically a blocked oil gland on the eyelid, usually infected with staph bacteria. He advised using a warm compress four times a day to liquefy the blocked oils. He also strictly warned against using old eye makeup or sharing towels during this time.
