How to relieve pneumonia back pain?

My father recently had pneumonia and even after recovering, he's complaining a lot about back pain, especially while lying down. We've tried some hot compresses, but it's not helping much. Is there anything else we can do at home to ease his discomfort?

Beta, pneumonia pain can be very stubborn and warm fluids are your best friend. Try sitting up straight with a warm gel pack on your back, and drink warm water with a little ginger. But please don't skip your main medicines, home remedies are only to make you comfortable.

Honestly, don't try any heavy exercise or stretches right now because your lungs need rest. Once your doc gives the green light, just start with very light indoor walking. Even 5 minutes of gentle movement helps with the stiffness, but absolutely no straining.

Pneumonia back pain is usually from all that heavy coughing straining your chest muscles. Try holding a pillow tightly against your chest when you cough to support your back. Also, check with your doctor if you can take a basic paracetamol to ease the ache.

Please don't try to self-treat this at home with simple pain balms. I once ignored back and side pain thinking it was just gas or muscle ache, and my infection got much worse. If the pain is sharp or you feel breathless, contact your doctor immediately.

I totally get it, that deep back pain makes it so hard to even lie down or sleep. When I had this, sleeping slightly propped up on a few pillows helped me breathe easier and took some pressure off my back. Just take it very slow and rest as much as you can.
