How to relieve muscle pain from workout?

I've increased my weightlifting, and now my arms and back are really stiff and painful. It's a good kind of pain, I guess, but I still want to recover faster. What are some general strategies to relieve muscle pain from workout sessions?

For consistent or sharp muscle pain after a workout, it's always best to consult with a sports physician. At a good hospital, they can differentiate between DOMS (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness) and an actual injury. They'll give you clear instructions on recovery, stretching, and when to resume training safely. Don't guess with injuries.

I usually swear by warm Epsom salt baths and gentle stretching for muscle pain. Also, drinking plenty of water and eating protein-rich food helps recovery. But if the pain is really severe, or there's swelling or bruising, then you absolutely must see a doctor. Home remedies are for mild soreness only.

My fitness app has a recovery section that suggests light active recovery like walking or cycling, which helps pump blood to sore muscles. I also use a foam roller regularly; there are tons of tutorials online. Plus, tracking my protein intake ensures my muscles have the building blocks they need.

I just went through this after trying a new HIIT class! What worked for me was making sure I had a proper cool-down stretch session, even when I was tired. I also made sure to get 7-8 hours of sleep and drank coconut water for electrolytes. It felt better in about 2 days.

My doctor explained that muscle pain post-workout is often Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS), caused by microscopic tears in muscle fibers. He recommended adequate hydration, post-workout protein for repair, and light active recovery to increase blood flow. Also, ensure a good warm-up to prepare muscles and a cool-down to prevent stiffness. If pain is sharp or disabling, seek medical advice.
