I've been suffering from gout attacks, and the pain can be excruciating. What are some practical ways to reduce gout pain during an episode? It's really hard to function when it hits.

I have tried so many things for my husband's gout pain over the years. What practically works best during an attack is drinking plenty of water to help flush out the uric acid and applying a cold ice pack to the affected joint to reduce inflammation. Also, keeping the leg elevated on a pillow brings a lot of relief.

My dad gets these crazy gout flare-ups where he can't even put his foot on the ground. He literally just drinks gallons of water and eats tart cherries or drinks cherry juice, which he says really helps bring down the swelling. Definitely avoid any soft drinks or sweet snacks when you have this.

Gout pain can be extremely severe and is a sign of high uric acid levels in the body, which can affect your kidneys over time if left untreated. While home remedies can soothe the pain temporarily, please get a blood test done to check your uric acid levels and consult a doctor for proper uric acid-lowering therapy.

During an acute gout attack, you must absolutely rest the joint and avoid any heavy exercise or walking, as it will only increase the pain and inflammation. Once the pain settles down and your doctor says it is okay, regular moderate exercise like swimming or cycling is great to keep your joints healthy and manage weight.

Hello! Gout pain is truly painful, but you can manage it well. Focus on avoiding high-purine foods like red meat, seafood, spinach, and alcohol, especially beer. Drink lots of warm water and try having a glass of lemon water daily, as it helps alkalinize the body and aids in flushing out uric acid.

So sorry you are dealing with this pain. Just try to keep your foot elevated, drink plenty of plain water, and rest as much as possible. I hope the flare-up subsides quickly.
