This is a time when your body is naturally letting go and needs gentle rest. Lie down quietly, take deep breaths, and practice mild abdominal breathing to calm the nervous system. Keeping your mind peaceful during these painful days helps a lot in relaxing the physical tension.

Please get an ultrasound done if your period back pain is severe enough to stop your daily life. I ignored mine for years thinking it was normal pain, but it turned out to be severe ovarian cysts. It is always safer to consult a gynecologist rather than just relying on hot water bags every month.

Try doing some very gentle stretching like the child's pose to release the pressure from your lower back muscles. Also, taking a warm shower can relax the uterine muscles and improve pelvic blood flow. Avoid excess salt and caffeine during your cycle as they increase bloating and back pressure.

My grandmother always suggests drinking warm water infused with cumin seeds to ease the internal spasms. But when the pain gets very bad, I take the mild antispasmodic tablet that my gynecologist prescribed. It is good to balance traditional wisdom with modern medical advice.

I hope you feel better. Placing a hot water bag on your lower back and curling up in a fetal position really helps in cutting down the sharp cramps.

My sister used to suffer from terrible backaches during her cycle, and we found that those stick-on heating patches worked like magic for her. She could just wear them under her clothes to college and keep going without carrying a heavy hot water bag. Maybe you can try those next time.

My doctor explained that the hormone prostaglandin causes the uterus to contract, which radiates pain to the lower back. She advised taking a magnesium supplement daily and starting mild anti-inflammatory food a day before the period begins. Doing regular pelvic floor stretches throughout the month also keeps this pain in check.
