How to reduce ankle pain while running?

I recently started a new running routine, and my ankles have been hurting quite a bit, especially during and after my runs. It's making it hard to stick with it. What can I do to reduce ankle pain while running?

Listen to your body, son. At my age, I realized that ignoring joint pain only makes it worse. Stop running for a few days, let the ankle heal, and always do proper stretching before you start your run.

Ankle pain while running usually points to poor running form or incorrect footwear. You should get your gait analyzed at a sports clinic. A doctor or sports physio can guide you on whether you need orthotics or specific strengthening exercises.

You are probably landing wrong or your shoes lack arch support. Use the RICE method—Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation—for 48 hours. If the pain doesn't subside, just book an appointment with a specialist instead of waiting.

Applying a warm mustard oil massage with a bit of garlic can help soothe minor pain. However, if there is swelling or you can't put weight on your foot, please get an X-ray done to make sure there is no fracture.

As a diabetic, I have to be extremely careful with foot and ankle pain because of nerve issues. I never ignore any pain while walking. Make sure your blood sugar is under control and wear shoes with very soft cushioning.

I ignored a minor ankle ache while training for a marathon and ended up with a ligament tear that kept me off the field for six months. Don't make my mistake. Go see an orthopedist or a good physiotherapist before running again.

First, check your running shoes; if they are old and worn out, they won't give proper support to your ankle. Try wrapping an crepe bandage tightly before your walk or run, and do simple ankle rotations every morning.

Bhai, give rest to your leg for some days. Put some warm water with salt in a bucket and keep your feet in it for fifteen minutes, it gives great relief. Don't run on hard concrete roads, try running on green grass instead.
