How to recover from lack of sleep?

I've been pulling all-nighters for my exams and now I feel totally drained. Even after sleeping for a few hours, I still feel very tired. How can I really recover from this lack of sleep?

When you are short on sleep, don't do heavy weight training as it strains your nervous system. Instead, go for a brisk 30-minute walk in natural sunlight during the morning. It helps reset your circadian rhythm naturally so you sleep better tonight.

Avoid popping sleeping pills over the counter as they can be habit-forming. Instead, restrict caffeine intake strictly after 2 PM and try to sleep and wake up at the exact same time daily. If the issue is severe, get a medical consultation for proper guidance.

For a quick recovery, try taking a warm water bath before sleeping and keeping your room cool and dark. These small changes help me relax deeply. But if you have been struggling to sleep for weeks, please see a doctor, as it could be insomnia.

Avoid heavy, oily dinners when you are already sleep-deprived, as your digestion slows down. Try having a light dinner like warm khichdi or vegetable soup. A cup of warm chamomile tea or turmeric milk before bed can also help soothe your nerves.

In our family, we apply a drop of warm ghee or sesame oil to the soles of our feet before sleeping to calm the mind. Make sure to switch off all screens and mobile phones at least an hour before bed. If sleeplessness is chronic, please consult an ayurvedic physician or doctor.

Lack of sleep can actually spike your cortisol levels and cause high morning blood sugar readings. Try to avoid sugary snacks or heavy coffee to stay awake, as it messes with insulin sensitivity. Stick to balanced meals and try to get a short 20-minute afternoon nap.
