How to obtain mental health records?

My brother had some mental health consultations a few years ago, and we need to access those records for a new doctor. It's not clear what the procedure is. How do we go about obtaining mental health records officially?

Obtaining mental health records can be a bit tricky, but it's your right to access them. You usually need to formally request them from the healthcare provider or institution where you received treatment. They will have a specific process, often involving a consent form. Make sure you know exactly what records you need.

For mental health records, you generally need to contact the hospital or clinic directly. There might be a small fee for photocopying or administrative charges, so be prepared for that. It's good to plan ahead because sometimes they take a few days to process such requests. Always keep copies for yourself.

This is way more serious than deciding what to eat for dinner! To get your mental health records, you'll need to formally request them from your doctor or the clinic/hospital. They can't just give them out like free samples, you know. It's confidential stuff. Make sure you follow their process properly.

It's totally understandable to want your mental health records, especially if you're navigating your health journey. It might feel like a lot of paperwork, but generally, you need to directly approach the clinic or hospital you visited. They'll have a specific procedure for patient record requests, usually involving a form and proof of identity. Don't stress too much, just ask them directly.

I've always wondered about getting these records too, but it feels a bit daunting. Does anyone know if it's a very long process, or if clinics make it difficult? I get anxious thinking about formalities. It's important to have them though for continuity of care, right?
