How to not get dandruff?

Since last winter, I've been struggling with really bad dandruff, and it's so embarrassing. I've tried a few shampoos but nothing helps long-term. What can I do to not get dandruff at all, or at least keep it completely away?

I tried all kinds of anti-dandruff shampoos from supermarkets but nothing worked until I went to a proper dermatologist at a reputed hospital. He diagnosed it as seborrheic dermatitis and gave me a specific medicated lotion. Please consult a qualified doctor instead of experimenting with random products.

It can be really annoying to deal with an itchy scalp. Just try to keep your hair clean, avoid too much oiling if your scalp is oily, and see a skin doctor if it doesn't go away.

Dandruff is often caused by a yeast-like fungus that feeds on scalp oils. Wash your hair regularly with a mild shampoo and don't let sweat build up. If it is stubborn, look for active ingredients like Ketoconazole or Zinc Pyrithione in OTC shampoos, but use them as directed.

I used to apply heavy coconut oil and leave it overnight, which actually made my dandruff much worse because the fungus feeds on oil! Now I only oil my hair an hour before washing. Keeping your scalp dry and clean is the best way to keep those white flakes away.

You might not believe it, but high stress levels and poor sleep can trigger skin flares, including dandruff. Along with managing my blood pressure, I noticed that when I sleep well and manage stress, my scalp health improves too. Do focus on your overall wellness and get regular health checkups.
