How to mix 2 stroke oil and petrol?

I need to mix 2 stroke oil and petrol for my small water pump. What's the recommended way to do this without causing any damage to the engine? Is there a specific container I should use?

It is best to mix them in a separate, clean container before pouring it into your machine's tank. For most domestic tools, a 40:1 ratio is standard, which translates to 25ml of 2-stroke oil for every 1 liter of petrol. Keep the container sealed to prevent evaporation.

Just buy a pre-marked mixing bottle online, it saves you from doing manual math. Put petrol up to the line, add 2T oil to the matching oil line, shake it well, and you're good to go.

I do this for my scooter. I just buy a 100ml pouch of 2T oil and mix it with exactly 5 liters of petrol at the bunk itself. It works perfectly and there's no mess at home.

I was also quite confused about this for my lawnmower. I used a simple plastic measuring syringe to measure 20ml of oil for 1 liter of petrol, and it made the whole process clean and easy.

Honestly, we just eyeball it sometimes for our old moped, but my dad says that's bad for the spark plug. Better to use a proper measuring cup so it doesn't smoke like crazy.

When working with fuels, keep a calm mind and do it in an open area with natural ventilation. After you finish, practice some deep pranayama breathing in clean air to refresh your lungs.

I totally get it, dealing with engine oil and fuel can feel very dirty and confusing if you've never done it. Just take your time, use a clean funnel, and wear some old clothes so you don't worry about stains.
