How to minimize tattoo pain?

I'm planning to get my first tattoo soon, but I'm really nervous about the pain. Are there any tricks or things I can do before or during the session to minimize the tattoo pain? Heard some people take something beforehand.

I really want to get a small wrist tattoo for my parents, but I am very scared of needles. Does it hurt as much as an injection, or is it different? Should I avoid getting it on the bone area?

Make sure you are physically feeling well before you go. Since I have thyroid issues, my energy levels and pain tolerance fluctuate, so I had to make sure my levels were stable before booking a long session. Eat a good meal and don't go on an empty stomach.

Managing your glucose levels before getting inked is very important because low blood sugar can make you feel dizzy or feel pain more intensely. I had a proper high-fiber meal and kept my sugar monitor handy. Also, make sure the shop is extremely hygienic to avoid any healing infections.

Just focus on breathing slowly during the process. Getting it on fleshier parts like the outer arm or thigh hurts much less than ribs or ankles. You can do this, it is mostly a mind game.

I was incredibly anxious before my first tattoo and read a hundred articles on pain. Honestly, just stay well hydrated the day before and take a friend along to distract you. Do not take any painkillers beforehand without asking the artist as some can thin your blood and cause more bleeding.
