How to manage diabetes without medication?

My father has borderline diabetes, and the doctor suggested he try to manage it without starting medication if possible. Are there any proven ways, like diet or exercise, that can really help control diabetes effectively without relying on medicines?

Just like managing my thyroid, keeping diabetes controlled without medication is only possible in very early borderline stages. You must get regular HbA1c tests done and consult your doctor before stopping any pills.

My dad tried managing his borderline diabetes purely by skipping sugar in tea and walking daily. It worked initially, but the doctor said lifestyle changes must be super strict to avoid meds completely.

I highly recommend using a continuous glucose monitor (CGM) for a couple of weeks. It helps you track exactly how different foods like white rice or roti spike your sugar levels, so you can adjust your diet scientifically.

Staying active is the absolute key! 🏃‍♀️ Try to do 30 minutes of brisk walking after dinner, it really helps to bring down fasting sugar levels naturally!

If you have a busy corporate lifestyle, relying purely on diet is tough. A realistic approach is to mix healthy eating with daily walks, but never hesitate to take prescribed medicines if your readings show spikes.

If your HbA1c is below 6.5, you may manage with strict portion control, fiber-rich foods, and daily exercise. But if your levels are high, medication is necessary to protect your organs, so please listen to your doctor.

Replacing simple carbs with complex carbs like oats, ragi, and plenty of green salads can help maintain blood sugar. But keep testing your levels, as diet alone is sometimes not enough.

Be very careful of advice claiming to cure diabetes permanently with juices. I manage my diabetes with a strict low-carb diet, but I still take my prescribed metformin because my doctor advised it is safest.
