How to make someone sleep?

My five-year-old son has been having trouble falling asleep lately, and it's making him really cranky during the day. We've tried bedtime stories and warm milk, but it's still a struggle. Does anyone have any tips or routines that can help make someone sleep peacefully, especially a child?

Just read them an old history textbook or play a boring corporate lecture, they will knock out in two minutes flat! On a serious note, a dark room and some white noise works like magic.

A warm glass of milk with a tiny pinch of nutmeg works beautifully for both kids and adults. Also, ensure the room temperature is slightly cool. Keeping screens away at least an hour before bed is crucial.

Don't force it, that only causes more anxiety about not sleeping. Tell them to try the 4-7-8 breathing technique—inhale for 4 seconds, hold for 7, and exhale slowly for 8. Just be there, keep the environment calm, and they will drift off.

Totally agree with the nutmeg milk tip, it really works. Massaging the soles of the feet with a little warm ghee also induces deep sleep.

Phone ka screen time zero karna padta hai first, haan na. If they keep scrolling, brain wakeful state mein hi rahega. Just play some soft instrumental music in a completely pitch-dark room.

I get so anxious when my family members can't sleep, I start worrying about their heart health. Please make sure they aren't having any chest discomfort or breathing trouble. Just give them some warm water and keep checking on them.

Sometimes high blood sugar levels cause frequent urination at night, keeping people awake. Avoid giving any sweet drinks or heavy carbohydrates before sleep. Check their fasting sugar if this is a recurring problem.

If this is chronic sleeplessness, please don't rely only on home tips. My uncle ignored severe insomnia for months, which turned out to be related to clinical depression and high BP. Get them checked by a doctor if it is happening daily.
