I'm on PrEP and I know it's important to keep an eye on liver health. What are the best ways to maintain liver health while on PrEP?
While on PrEP, keeping your liver health optimal is very important, much like managing it with diabetes. I advise staying completely away from processed sugars and heavy fried items, which can cause fatty liver and add extra metabolic stress. Focus on clean, high-fiber carbohydrates instead.
I track my liver enzyme trends on my health portal whenever I get my routine PrEP blood work done. Keeping an eye on your AST/ALT levels is super easy and helps you see if anything is flaring up. Make sure you stay highly hydrated and log your daily water intake to help your body process everything smoothly.
If you are on PrEP, the most realistic thing you can do is avoid drinking alcohol, as both are processed by your liver and the dual load can be tough. I keep my routine simple: take my doses exactly as prescribed and do my scheduled clinical liver panel tests every three months without fail.
It is totally normal to feel a bit concerned about your liver when starting PrEP, but don't worry too much. Just make sure you are eating healthy home-cooked meals and maybe add some green tea to your routine. Just stay in touch with your clinic and let them do the regular monitoring.

I totally get it, starting a daily medication like PrEP makes you worry about long-term side effects on your organs. Rest assured, modern medications are very safe, especially when monitored properly. Just be kind to your body, avoid unnecessary OTC painkillers, and let your doctor guide you.
