How to lower high fever?

My son has a very high fever since morning, and the medicine is taking some time to work. Besides the medication, what else can I do at home to help bring down his high fever quickly? I'm quite worried.

For a high fever, especially if it's very sudden or accompanied by other severe symptoms, please do not delay seeing a doctor. While you can take a paracetamol and sponge yourself with lukewarm water in the meantime, it's crucial to get a professional diagnosis to rule out serious infections and get proper treatment. Safety first, always!

When high fever hits, the body is fighting hard. My priority is to support it with proper hydration – plain water, electrolytes, or clear broths. Absolutely no heavy workouts, just complete rest. Eating light, nutrient-rich food like simple dal-rice or khichdi helps. And obviously, meds as advised by the doctor.

High fever should never be taken lightly. I learned this the hard way when I dismissed a persistent high fever as just a viral and it turned out to be a severe infection that needed hospitalization. Please, please see a doctor immediately. While waiting, you can take a prescribed fever reducer and sponge with lukewarm water, but a medical diagnosis is paramount.

High fever, particularly if you have underlying conditions like thyroid issues, needs immediate attention. While taking a fever reducer and sponging with lukewarm water offers temporary relief, it's essential to consult your doctor. Fevers can sometimes impact hormone levels or be a symptom of an infection that needs specific treatment, so a follow-up with your endocrinologist might also be needed.

For a high fever, you can try lukewarm sponging and drinking plenty of fluids like ORS or plain water to stay hydrated. Some people find comfort in herbal teas. However, if the fever is very high (say, above 102°F) or doesn't come down with these measures, or if you have other worrying symptoms, you absolutely must see a doctor to get a proper diagnosis and treatment.

For high fever, especially when managing diabetes, consistent monitoring of blood sugar levels is crucial, as fever can cause fluctuations. Stay well-hydrated with non-sugary fluids like water, unsweetened tea, or clear broths. Take fever-reducing medication as directed by your doctor. It's very important to consult your physician to identify the cause of the fever and adjust your diabetes management plan accordingly.
