How to help someone with mental health issues?

My younger brother seems to be struggling with some mental health issues, maybe depression or anxiety, after losing his job. He's not talking to anyone. How can I help him open up and get the support he needs?

If their doctor approves, gently invite them out for a light morning walk in the park. Getting some sunlight and light physical movement can naturally help boost endorphins and clear the mind a bit.

When my anxiety was at its peak, even getting out of bed was hard. Help them with small things like ordering groceries or washing dishes. Making their environment slightly easier to live in really reduces the mental load.

The most responsible thing you can do is help them connect with a qualified clinical psychologist or psychiatrist. Don't rely on self-help books or casual advice, professional therapy is crucial for proper recovery.

You don't need to have all the answers. Just letting them know that you are in their corner and that they don't have to go through this alone is enough.

Sometimes comfort food like warm paranthas or a hot bowl of soup can make a bad day slightly more bearable. Don't worry about diets too much during hard times, just feed them what makes their soul happy and sit with them.
