How to help someone with kidney stones?

My friend was recently diagnosed with kidney stones and he's in a lot of pain. He's trying to manage it at home before seeing a specialist again. How can I help someone with kidney stones, maybe with diet or comfort?

If the pain is severe, do not try to manage it at home with random juices. Go to a urologist at a proper hospital so they can do an ultrasound and check the stone size. Some stones need medication or minor procedures to pass safely.

I used a water tracking app to ensure I was consistently hitting 3.5 liters a day after my first stone. Tracking urine color is also a great feature on some wellness apps; it should always be pale yellow. Keeping active and walking also helps the stone move down.

Drinking lots of barley water (jau ka paani) and coconut water helps flush out small stones very well. But if they have severe vomiting, fever, or blood in their urine, stop the home remedies immediately and rush to the doctor. Those are dangerous signs.

The pain can be very testing, so keep their mind calm and peaceful. Let them rest in a comfortable position, drink plenty of warm water, and have faith that the body will heal. Take care and consult a good doctor to guide you.

Please get an ultrasound done to find out the exact size and position of the stone. Ignoring it or waiting for it to pass naturally can sometimes cause swelling in the kidney, which is very dangerous. Always follow the urologist's advice.

My doctor explained that drinking 3 liters of water is essential, but you also need to know the type of stone. For calcium oxalate stones, we had to reduce spinach and tomatoes. He also prescribed specific alkalizing syrups to help dissolve them naturally over time.
