How to help someone with a mental health problem?

My college roommate has been going through a really tough time lately, not sleeping and always very anxious. I feel like she might have a mental health problem, but I don't know how to approach her or offer help without making things worse. What's the best way to support her?

Having recently recovered from severe anxiety, I can tell you that the best thing my family did was simply not force me to 'get over it.' They just let me speak when I wanted to and helped me find a compassionate therapist. Patience and gentle support make all the difference.

Helping someone with mental health struggles is tough, especially when you are barely sleeping yourself. Honestly, don't try to be their therapist; just be their friend who watches bad movies with them. Leave the actual treatment plans to the professionals.

When my sister was struggling, I realized that I couldn't fix her problems myself. I just focused on doing simple everyday chores for her, like making sure she had water and a quiet space to rest. Helping with small daily tasks can take a lot of pressure off them.

While professional medical therapy is absolutely necessary, encouraging them to eat balanced, nutritious meals can also support their overall brain health. A healthy gut definitely plays a role in managing mood. But always prioritize their doctor's advice over general diet tips.

Haan na, mental health issues can be very complex to deal with at home. We should never judge them or make them feel guilty about their condition. Just listen to them patiently and support them in getting professional counseling, ho na?

I am trying to help a close classmate who seems very depressed lately, but I am quite shy and don't know how to bring it up. Should I directly ask her if she wants to talk about it? Or is it better to just sit quietly with her so she doesn't feel alone?
