How to help rib pain?

I've been experiencing a sharp, persistent pain in my ribs, especially when I breathe deeply or twist my body. It's been a few days now. What can I do to help relieve this rib pain?

If the rib pain is due to a bad cough or a mild muscle strain, warm compress and steam inhalation really help. But if you also have chest tightness or breathing trouble, please don't wait and go to the hospital immediately.

I had severe rib pain last year after a bad bout of bronchitis, and it took its own time to heal. Sleep on your back and avoid lifting anything heavy. Let the body rest completely.

Rib pain can stem from costochondritis, a muscle pull, or even gastric pressure. It's difficult to self-diagnose, so a quick physical checkup with a physician is the safest route to get clear answers.

Does your rib pain get worse when you take a deep breath? I am quite anxious about this and hoping it's just a muscle pull. Should I see a specialist or general doctor?
