How to help hernia pain?

I was diagnosed with a small hernia recently, and sometimes it causes a dull ache, especially after I lift something heavy. I'm waiting for the surgery. What can I do to manage this hernia pain in the meantime?

Hernia pain is your body's way of telling you that you aren't a superhero, so stop lifting heavy furniture! Avoid any heavy lifting or intense coughing fits. Keep it light, rest, and let a surgeon have a look at it.

For mild discomfort, avoiding constipation by eating high-fiber foods and drinking warm water can help prevent strain. However, since a hernia is a physical tear, home tips won't cure it. Please consult a doctor if the pain increases.

If you have a busy work schedule, avoid sitting for too long without support. A hernia won't fix itself with home remedies, so it's best to schedule an online or quick in-person consultation with a general surgeon to plan your treatment early.

Please don't ignore hernia pain or try to press it back in yourself. Avoid any heavy physical activity and wear supportive clothing. If the pain becomes sudden and severe, or if you feel nauseous, you must go to the emergency room immediately.

I had a groin hernia surgery last year. The best tip is to never strain during bowel movements and avoid heavy lifting completely. Don't fear the doctor—getting a simple surgical consultation early saves you from emergency complications later.
