How to help friends with cancer?

My childhood friend was recently diagnosed with breast cancer, and I want to be there for her. It's difficult to see her go through this. Besides just being there, what are some practical ways to help friends with cancer?

When my close friend was undergoing chemotherapy at a major hospital, her family was very overwhelmed. I went with them to some appointments and we made sure to ask the oncologist clearly about dietary restrictions and emergency symptoms. Being organized with their medical files is a huge help.

Just be there to cook healthy, fresh, high-protein meals for them when they don't have the energy. If they feel up to it, offering to go for a very slow, short walk in a quiet park can help them get some fresh air and feel a bit normal.

Sometimes the best thing you can do is just watch stupid comedy movies with them and crack silly jokes. They are already dealing with so much serious stuff, so being the friend who brings normal laughter and distraction is a beautiful gift.

Give them moral and emotional support, as a strong mind is very important for healing. You can prepare simple, easily digestible traditional foods like light moong dal khichdi or clear vegetable soups for them, but always ensure everything is freshly cooked and clean.

Always check with their medical team first, but if the doctor allows, gently encouraging them to do very light stretching or a brief walk can help with fatigue. Never push them, just offer to accompany them at their own slow pace.

I can't offer medical advice, but I know how stressful health battles are. Just helping them with daily chores, like grocery shopping or managing house cleaning, can relieve so much mental burden so they can focus on their recovery.

Please remember their immunity is extremely low during treatment, so be very cautious about hygiene. Never visit them if you have even a mild cold or cough, and always wash your hands thoroughly before meeting them to keep them safe.
