I logged this in my health tracker last month when I got them. Keeping the sores hydrated with a tiny bit of petroleum jelly helped stop the cracking. Avoid touching them constantly so they don't spread or get infected.

Fever sores or cold sores are viral, and my doctor explained that they usually run their course in 7 to 10 days. She advised applying an over-the-counter antiviral cream as soon as you feel the tingling sensation. Never squeeze or pop them, as that causes scarring.

Oh, those painful lip sores are so embarrassing and hurtful, I feel you. I usually dab a cold ice pack wrapped in a cloth on the spot to numb the pain. Also, avoid eating spicy or sour foods for a few days.

Put a little fresh aloe vera gel on the sores to soothe the burning sensation. Make sure you are washing your hands with soap before and after applying anything. Don't share towels or cups with others in the house.

Do not let these temporary outbreaks stress you out, as stress can actually delay the healing. Keep your face clean, drink plenty of cooling fluids, and let your body heal in peace. This too shall pass.

Skin issues take longer to heal when blood sugar levels are high. If you are diabetic, monitor your glucose closely while managing these sores. Stick to your prescribed medicines and avoid any sweet home-remedy pastes on your lips.

Since my hormones are always fluctuating due to PCOS, my skin gets very sensitive when I run a fever. I am very careful not to try harsh chemical products on the sores. Mild ice therapy works best for me, but definitely check with a dermatologist if they don't fade.
