In my 64 years, I've learned that a fever is just your body's natural defense mechanism fighting off a bug. There is no need to panic or rushedly take heavy doses. Just rest in bed, eat simple light food, keep hydrated, and let the body do its job.
Whenever I get a mild fever, I just take a paracetamol after food, drink a bottle of electoral water, and sleep for 10 hours. Usually, I wake up sweating and the fever is completely gone. Rest is the easiest cure, honestly.
If you have a busy workday, don't try to power through a fever with multiple cups of tea. Take a proper medical leave, consult a doctor for the right medicine, and rest. Trying to work will only prolong the fever and make you weaker.
My mother always makes warm pepper and cumin rasam when anyone has a fever, which really helps open up the sinuses and gives energy. However, for bringing down the actual temperature, we always rely on a doctor's prescribed paracetamol tablet.
Don't trust random articles claiming raw onions on feet or herbal mixtures will cure your fever instantly. A fever can be a symptom of anything from a simple cold to dengue or malaria. Get a proper clinical consultation if it persists beyond two days.
Since I have high blood pressure, I have to be very careful with over-the-counter flu and cold medicines, as some can raise BP. I always check with my doctor first. Simple rest, lukewarm sponging, and plenty of water are the safest ways to manage fever.
Before rushing for expensive blood tests on day one, just take basic rest and monitor the fever. Most viral fevers settle down in 3 days with cheap, standard medicines. If it continues past day 3, then plan to visit a local clinic for a basic blood count test.
While self-limiting viral fevers do subside with rest and hydration, it is crucial to monitor the temperature. If the fever is high, accompanied by severe headache, rash, or vomiting, a physical examination by a medical practitioner is necessary. Please avoid self-diagnosis.
When the body is warm, the digestive fire is weak. Eat very light satvik food like moong dal khichdi or vegetable broth. Practice slow, deep abdominal breathing to calm the nervous system and help the body channel its energy into healing.
Make sure you keep yourself cozy but not overheated. A sponge bath with normal water (not ice-cold!) can really help bring down the temperature comfortably. Keep sipping warm water and stay positive!
