How to get rid of an optical migraine?

Sometimes I get these weird visual disturbances, like an optical migraine, where my vision gets blurry or I see shimmering spots. It's always followed by a headache. How can I get rid of an optical migraine when it happens?

Oh god, when I first saw those flashing lights and blind spots, I literally panicked thinking it was a stroke! It is so terrifying but please try to stay calm as anxiety makes the blood pressure shoot up. Just lie down in a dark room immediately and close your eyes until the visual patterns go away.

Haan na, optical migraine mein toh aankhon ke aage bohot ajeeb lagta hai. Aise time par mobile screen bilkul mat dekhna, aaur andhere room mein aankhein band karke so jao. Thoda fresh water pi lo, aaram milta hai.

I have dealt with these optical auras for many years, and home remedies like herbal tea don't stop the visual changes. The only practical solution is to immediately sit in a dark, silent place and apply a cold compress to your forehead. The vision usually returns to normal on its own in 20 minutes.

My optical migraines were actually linked to my thyroid fluctuations. While keeping your eyes closed in a quiet room helps when the aura starts, please make sure you are getting your thyroid levels checked regularly. Follow up with your doctor to keep your hormones stable.

If you are seeing flashing lights, stop whatever you are doing and sit down before you feel dizzy. Put your phone away, drink some water, and rest your eyes in a quiet room. If this keeps happening frequently, go visit a proper eye doctor immediately.

I got this once during my semester exams because of crazy eye strain from studying all night. I just closed my laptop, put a cold damp towel over my eyes, and slept. Seriously, just take a break from screens and let your eyes rest.
