How to get mental health records?

My new therapist asked for my old mental health records to get a better understanding of my history. How can I get access to these records from my previous doctor? Do I just call them directly?

Do not worry, getting your records is actually your legal right. You just need to write a simple email or submit a written request to the clinic or hospital where you saw your doctor. They might take a few days to compile it, but they are obligated to share your files with you securely.

Man, tracking down medical records is a headache, especially when you are already running on three hours of sleep. I literally had to call my doctor's clinic five times before their receptionist finally emailed me my PDFs. Just keep nagging them gently, eventually they will send it just to get you off their back.

In our time, we kept all medical papers in a physical file at home, which is still the best habit. You should directly visit the hospital administration desk where you took treatment and ask for your case file. Keeping your mind calm with warm milk and chamomile tea also helps while you handle these official tasks.

Bhai, aap seedha doctor ke clinic pe jaakar unke assistant se baat karo. They usually keep everything on their computer systems and can print it out for you in ten minutes. Bas apna ID card saath lekar jaana taaki koi dikkat na ho.

Over the years, I have realized how important it is to keep a digital folder of all health reports. For mental health records, you can directly ask your therapist or psychiatrist during your next visit. They are always very cooperative about sharing past prescriptions and assessment files when you ask nicely.
