How to get a free mental health evaluation?

I've been feeling overwhelmed and struggling with my mental health for a while now, but I can't afford private therapy or consultations. Are there any government schemes or NGOs that offer free mental health evaluations in India?

My doctor told me that often, government hospitals or community health centers offer free or heavily subsidized mental health services, including initial evaluations. Some NGOs also run free clinics. You can also check with university psychology departments, as they sometimes have student-led clinics under supervision that are low-cost or free. It might take some searching, but options exist.

While regular exercise like walking helps my mental well-being, for a proper evaluation, you need a professional. Many government hospitals have psychiatry departments where initial consultations might be free or very nominal. Also, look for mental health helplines or NGOs; they can often guide you to free resources or subsidized counseling services in your city. Don't hesitate to reach out.

I actually got my initial evaluation through a local government hospital. It took a bit of waiting, but the consultation with the psychiatrist was free. They then guided me on further steps, which were also very affordable. Don't be afraid to ask around at your local PHC or district hospital. It really made a difference for me.

Finding free mental health evaluations can be challenging but not impossible. I'd suggest looking into government-run district hospitals or primary health centers, as they usually have mental health services. Some NGOs also provide free counseling or referrals. It might take a few calls to find the right place, so please be persistent and kind to yourself during the process.

Free mental health evaluation, haan? Sounds like a dream in today's world where even breathing costs money! But seriously, check out government hospitals. They often have departments for this. It might involve some queueing and patience, but it's usually free or very, very cheap. Also, some NGOs do great work, so look them up in your city.

Beta, it's good that you are seeking help. In our times, these things were hidden, but now people are more open. For free evaluations, look for government hospitals or medical colleges; they often have a psychiatry department. Also, many social organizations and NGOs work for mental health and might offer free services. Don't lose hope, help is available.

Hey man, I know how hard it can be to find affordable help. What worked for my friend was checking out the psychiatry department at a big government hospital. The initial consult was free. Also, look up local NGOs working in mental health; some have free counseling. Don't feel ashamed to ask for help, it's smart.

I can't give medical advice, but from my experience and what friends have told me, government hospitals are often the place to start for free services. They usually have designated days for psychiatric consultations that are either free or very low cost. It's worth checking out your local municipal hospital.
