How to ease the pain of a hernia?

I've been diagnosed with a small hernia, and it causes a dull ache that sometimes gets sharp, especially when I exert myself. My surgery is scheduled for next month, but until then, what can I do to ease the pain and discomfort?

While you are waiting for your doctor's appointment, avoid lifting heavy water buckets or shifting furniture at home, as straining makes hernia pain worse. Wear a supportive binder or snug underwear to keep the area stable. Also, eat simple foods so you don't get constipated, which causes major strain.

To prevent hernia pain from flaring up, it is very important to avoid constipation and bloating. I make sure to eat high-fiber vegetarian food like oats, leafy greens, and drink plenty of water daily to keep digestion smooth. But definitely avoid any heavy physical straining.

Honestly, a hernia cannot be cured with home remedies or exercises, it physical damage that usually requires a surgical fix. Avoid heavy workouts at the gym immediately and go see a general surgeon. Getting it repaired early is much better than waiting for an emergency.

I totally get it, that constant pulling and uncomfortable dull ache from a hernia can make daily chores so difficult. When my husband had this, lying down flat on his back for a few minutes really helped ease the pressure. Please take it easy and don't push your body too hard.

I have been feeling a small, soft bulge near my lower abdomen that hurts when I cough or laugh. Does anyone else feel a sharp pinching sensation there? I am really worried if it can get stuck or if I need to go to the hospital right away.
