How to ease the pain of a bulging disk?

My doctor told me I have a bulging disc in my lower back, and the pain is quite severe, especially when I sit or try to lift something. I'm doing physiotherapy, but on bad days, the pain is unbearable. Any tips to manage the pain at home?

Living with a bulging disk is mentally and physically exhausting because even sitting down to eat a meal becomes a struggle. I completely validate how frustrating it feels when your body limits you like this. Please take it slow, do not push your limits, and give yourself grace while healing.

I managed my L4-L5 bulging disk without surgery by doing targeted core-strengthening exercises under a good physiotherapist. Avoid bending forward completely and never lift heavy weights from the floor. Applying heat packs for 20 minutes daily really helped relieve my muscle spasms.

My doctor at Hinduja Hospital made it very clear that trying random chiropractic adjustments for a bulging disk can be extremely dangerous. Please consult a qualified spine specialist or orthopaedic doctor and get an MRI done before starting any physiotherapy program.

I had a slip disk issue back in my fifties, and with proper bed rest and light walking, it settled down beautifully. Do not lose hope, the body has a great capacity to heal with time and patience. Just stay active with very gentle movements and avoid hard physical labor for now.

My doctor recently told me I have a mild disk bulge and I am a bit scared to do any exercise now. Can anyone suggest if gentle yoga or walking is safe to do, or should I just stick to bed rest until the pain goes away completely?

I completely understand the anxiety of feeling that sudden sharp shooting pain down your leg; it used to terrify me that I would never walk normally again. It is okay to feel scared, but please know that most disk bulges heal with conservative treatment. Just take deep breaths and consult a professional to ease your mind.
