How to ease shingles pain?

My elder sister recently had shingles, and she's still experiencing a lot of pain even after the rash cleared up. She's finding it hard to sleep. What are some effective ways to ease shingles pain for her?

I completely panicked when I woke up with a painful rash on my side, thinking it was some dangerous disease. But my doctor quickly diagnosed it as shingles, gave me antivirals, and reassured me that it is common and heals. Just take your medicines on time and the pain will gradually go down, don't worry.

Oh god, shingles nerve pain sounds so scary and uncomfortable, I would be stressing out completely if I were you. Please wear very loose, soft cotton clothes so nothing rubs against the rash. I really hope you have already consulted a doctor, because early antiviral treatment is super important for this.

Please do not make the mistake I made by ignoring the burning sensation, thinking it was just a regular skin allergy. I delayed seeing a doctor for a week, and now I am stuck with long-term nerve pain called post-herpetic neuralgia. Go to a doctor within 72 hours of the rash appearing to start antivirals.

If you suspect shingles, go to a government hospital or a local trust clinic where doctor consultation fees are low. Don't waste money on expensive online skin creams that might not even work for nerve pain. Get a proper prescription for affordable generic antiviral tablets which are the actual cure.

Your immune system is probably very down right now, which is why the virus flared up. Stop all intense gym workouts and focus on complete rest, sleep, and a clean diet with lots of vitamin-rich fruits and veggies. Light walking is fine if you have the energy, but let your body focus on healing.

I had shingles on my lower back two years ago and it was very painful. Apart from the antiviral course, applying cool, damp compresses to the blisters helped soothe the burning. Calamine lotion can also bring some relief from the itching, but make sure to keep the area clean and dry.

Do not apply any homemade neem pastes, oils, or random herbal mixtures on those blisters, as you can easily cause a secondary bacterial infection. Shingles is a viral infection of the nerves and requires proper medical treatment. Verify everything with a dermatologist or general physician before applying anything.
