How to ease ear pain at home?

My son, who is 6, is complaining of ear pain again. He gets it quite often, especially after swimming. I want to try some home remedies first before taking him to the doctor. Any suggestions for easing ear pain at home?

Do not put anything inside the ear canal at home. Just sit upright, as lying flat can increase the pressure and make the throbbing much worse.

Please go to an ENT specialist. I tried putting garlic oil in my ear once for pain, and it caused a severe fungal infection that took weeks of treatment to fix.

Keep a warm, dry heating pad on your cheek near the ear for some comfort. Do not put any OTC ear drops without a doctor looking at your eardrum first, okay?

Avoid putting water in your ear while bathing. Use a warm compress from outside, and if the pain doesn't stop by tomorrow, just visit a doctor.

If the pain is due to sinus congestion, doing steam inhalation with a drop of eucalyptus oil can open up the Eustachian tube and relieve the pressure.
