How to ease cavity pain?

I have a cavity in my tooth, and it's started hurting a lot, especially when I eat anything sweet or cold. My dentist appointment is next week. What can I do to ease this cavity pain temporarily?

My molar has this sharp pain whenever I drink cold water, is this a cavity? I am super terrified of dental root canals, is it very painful?

I just got a deep filling done yesterday. Keeping a clove near the painful tooth helped temporary relieve the throbbing till I could reach the dentist.

Please do not ignore cavity pain by just using home remedies. I delayed my dentist visit and the infection spread to my jaw, which required major surgery.

That toothache is the universe punishing us for all the late-night ice cream! Just go to the dentist, the modern numbing injections are actually saving lives.
