How to ease back pain while sleeping?

I often wake up with a stiff and aching back, which really impacts my morning. I've tried different pillows. What are some ways to ease back pain while sleeping or prevent it from getting worse overnight? Maybe a different sleeping position?

I have spent the last three nights wrestling with five different pillows trying to find one angle where my back doesn't ache. Sleeping on my side with a pillow tucked between my knees seems to be the only winner so far.

I used to wake up with a stiff lower back every single morning. I put a small, rolled-up towel under my lower back when sleeping on my back, and it really helped maintain the natural curve.

I kept worrying my morning back pain was some major spinal issue, which made me sleep even more tensed. Try to relax your muscles before bed with a warm shower, and make sure your mattress isn't sagging in the middle.

Never sleep on your stomach if you have back pain, as it strains the neck and spine. Always choose side sleeping or back sleeping with proper pillow support. If the mattress is more than 8 years old, replace it immediately.

Yaar, my back used to hurt so bad while sleeping, actually because of my soft mattress. I switched to sleeping on a thin, firm cotton mattress on the floor for a few days and the pain vanished.

My mattress was so old it felt like sleeping on a bag of potatoes, no wonder my back was protesting. Changed to a firm ortho mattress and now my back and I are on talking terms again!

I agree with the side-sleeping suggestion; keeping a pillow between the legs truly helps relieve spinal pressure overnight.
