How to do side stroke?

I'm part of a swimming club, and we're learning different strokes. My instructor showed us side stroke briefly, but I'm finding it tricky to get the rhythm. Can anyone give a detailed explanation on how to do side stroke properly, especially the leg kick?

Don't just watch videos online and try to master side stroke, especially if you aren't an experienced swimmer. It requires specific coordination, and doing it wrong can strain your neck or shoulders. Learn it directly from a certified swimming coach.

I tried learning side stroke on my own last year and ended up with a severe neck sprain that required physiotherapy. If you have any history of neck or back pain, please consult your doctor before trying any new swimming techniques.

Side stroke is a very classic and relaxing style, often used for lifesaving or long-distance swimming because it lets you rest. The scissor kick is the most important part; take your time to practice it on your side, and don't hurry.

When I was recovering from a shoulder injury, the physiotherapist at Fortis suggested avoiding side stroke initially as the unilateral movement can put uneven pressure on the joint. It is always wise to ask your doctor if your shoulders are ready for it.

Yes, keeping your head low in the water helps a lot. It is a very peaceful stroke once you get the coordination right.

Haan na, starting with the arm movement is so confusing in side stroke. You feel like you are picking an apple with one hand and putting it in a basket with the other. Just go slow and you will get it, ho na.

Humare gaon ke talab mein hum log thak jaane par ek karwat lekar tairte the, wahi side stroke hai. Apne ek hath ko aage rakhein aur pairon se scissor ki tarah kick karein, bohot aaram milta hai tairte waqt.

I absolutely love side stroke because it keeps my face out of the water mostly, which is great if you don't like getting water up your nose! Just keep one ear submerged and glide smoothly after each kick.
