How to diagnose asthma in adults?

For a few months now, I've been having this persistent cough and sometimes feel breathless, especially at night. My husband thinks it might be asthma. How do doctors usually diagnose asthma in adults like me?

I spent a long time drinking ginger-honey mixtures for my night cough, thinking it was just a seasonal cold. It turned out to be adult-onset asthma, which only got better once I took a proper inhaler as prescribed by my doctor. Please get a lung function test (Spirometry) done.

If you get breathless very quickly during light jogging or walking, it could be exercise-induced bronchospasm or asthma. A doctor can easily diagnose this using a simple spirometry test in their clinic. Don't push yourself through severe breathlessness without a medical checkup.

I have been having this dry cough and a tight feeling in my chest every evening for the last month. Does anyone else get these symptoms only at night? I am really worried and thinking of booking a lung test this weekend.

It is so scary when you suddenly can't breathe properly as an adult and feel like you are losing control. I felt so overwhelmed when I was diagnosed. Just know that once you see a pulmonologist and get the right diagnosis and inhaler, you can lead a completely normal life.

In our family, we use steam inhalation with some eucalyptus oil to help clear a heavy chest. But if you have constant wheezing and shortness of breath, these remedies are not enough. You must visit a chest specialist and let them check your lungs properly.
