How to cut acidity in tomato sauce without sugar?

My family is trying to reduce sugar intake, but our homemade tomato sauce often tastes quite acidic without it. Is there a way to cut acidity in tomato sauce without sugar? I want it to be healthy and tasty.

Hey! I usually add a pinch of baking soda to my tomato sauce while it's cooking. It really helps balance the acidity without making it sweet. Also, using really ripe tomatoes makes a difference. If you're having constant acidity issues after food though, maybe consult a doctor, just to be safe.

My kids love pasta but are sensitive to acidity. What I do is add a little bit of grated carrot or some finely chopped red bell pepper while sautéing the base. It adds a natural sweetness and cuts the tanginess. Also, a dash of cream or milk at the end can mellow it out a lot.

Tomato acidity can be tricky, especially if you have other health conditions. I would suggest trying to use less concentrated tomato products or cooking it longer on low heat. For general health, always good to keep an eye on your overall diet and get regular checkups, particularly if you have thyroid issues like me. It affects so many things.

Oh, for tomato sauce, try sautéing your onions and garlic really well till they caramelize a bit. That sweetness helps. Also, a bay leaf or two while simmering, and removing them before serving, can help. Some people swear by a little bit of pureed sweet potato too! Just make sure whatever you add is balanced with the other ingredients.

I totally get it, trying to make food tasty and healthy is a constant struggle! What works for me is using ripe, red tomatoes and then slow-cooking the sauce for a long time. It naturally mellows out the acidity. Some people also add a little bit of homemade cashew paste for creaminess and to cut the tang.

As someone managing diabetes, I'm very careful about hidden sugars. For tomato sauce, roasting the tomatoes beforehand can make them sweeter naturally. Also, adding some low-carb vegetables like zucchini or spinach while it simmers helps. Always check labels if you're using canned tomatoes, some have added sugar.
