How to commit someone for mental health?

My family is really struggling with how to get a loved one who is in a mental health crisis to agree to treatment. They're resistant and we don't know what to do. What is the process for getting someone committed for mental health care?

This is a serious medical situation that goes far beyond any diet or wellness advice. If a family member is in a crisis, please do not rely on lifestyle changes. You need to immediately seek professional help from a qualified hospital or clinic.

In India, admission to a mental health facility is regulated by the Mental Healthcare Act. You should go to a reputed government or private hospital and consult a licensed psychiatrist. Ask them clearly about the legal procedure for admission so you have all the facts.

We delayed seeking professional psychiatric help for a relative for over a year, hoping they would just get better, and it only made the situation worse. If someone's safety is at risk, please do not wait. Get them evaluated by a medical professional immediately.

Hey, I know this is an incredibly stressful and heavy time for you, but please take a deep breath. You are doing the right thing by looking out for their safety. Reach out to a professional mental health helpline or a trusted doctor, they will guide you step-by-step.

I feel so overwhelmed just thinking about how hard it must be to make this decision for a loved one. Has anyone else here had to go through the legal process of admitting a family member? I always worry if it will damage the relationship forever.
