How to check thyroid levels?

My mother has been managing her thyroid for years, and now she's asking me to get my levels checked as well. What exactly does 'checking thyroid levels' involve, and is it a complicated process?

Does anyone else get super nervous waiting for the thyroid blood test report to come? I keep overthinking what the TSH value will be.

For checking levels, there is no shortcut other than a blood test, son. Eat a simple home-cooked meal the night before and go to the lab empty stomach the next morning.

Just book a standard T3, T4, TSH blood panel. I get it checked every six months to make sure my metabolism and energy levels match my training routine.

You can check online health portals, they often have discount coupons for complete thyroid profiles. It is much cheaper than booking directly at physical labs.

Make sure you do the blood test early in the morning before eating anything. If you are already on thyroid medicine, don't take it before the test; take it only after giving the blood sample.

We get our daughter's thyroid levels checked every three months. We just book a home sample collection so she doesn't have to miss school or wait in long clinic lines.
