I recently had a melanoma removed, so I can tell you from experience. The best way to check is to regularly examine your skin using the 'ABCDE' rule. A for Asymmetry, B for Border (irregular), C for Color (varied), D for Diameter (larger than 6mm), E for Evolving (changing). If any mole or spot fits these, especially if it's new or changing, see a dermatologist immediately. Early detection saved me.
Melanoma? Okay, unless you're a dermatoscopic superhero, you can't exactly 'check' it at home like a scratch. But you can play 'spot the odd mole'! Look for any weird, changing, or ugly-duckling moles on your body. If it looks suspicious or is growing, just go to a skin doc. They have the fancy magnifying glasses for that. Don't self-diagnose by comparing to Google images, you'll just freak out!
For melanoma, a self-skin exam is crucial, but it's more about awareness than diagnosis. Use the 'ABCDE' guide for moles: Asymmetry, irregular Border, varied Color, Diameter >6mm, and Evolving (changes in size, shape, color, or new symptoms like itching/bleeding). If you find any suspicious moles, please consult a dermatologist. They use special tools like a dermatoscope for a closer look.
I ignored a strange-looking mole on my arm for months, thinking it was nothing. Big mistake. It turned out to be an early-stage melanoma that thankfully was removed successfully. Please, if you have any mole that changes in size, shape, or color, or starts to itch or bleed, get it checked by a dermatologist immediately. Don't make my mistake of waiting. Early detection is everything.
Melanoma is something I've actually learned about through health awareness campaigns. You can check your own skin at home monthly! Use a mirror for hard-to-see areas. Look for any moles that are asymmetrical, have irregular borders, uneven color, are larger than a pencil eraser, or are changing in any way. If anything looks suspicious, please go to a dermatologist to get it checked. Better safe than sorry!

While my focus is usually on managing blood sugar, skin health is important too. For melanoma, it's really about being vigilant about any changes on your skin. Check your moles regularly using the ABCDE rule. Any new or changing mole that fits those criteria should be shown to a dermatologist immediately. Don't ignore it, as early detection is vital for skin cancers.
