How to bring down high fever in infants?

My 8-month-old has a high fever, 102 degrees F, and I'm quite panicked. What are the immediate steps I should take to bring down a high fever in an infant at home? We are planning to see a doctor soon.

High fever in infants can be very worrying. Given how sensitive their systems are, please avoid any self-medication or home remedies without consulting a doctor. Just like with PCOS, every body is different, and for infants, it's even more critical to get precise medical advice for diagnosis and the correct dosage of fever-reducing medication. Keep them hydrated, lightly clothed, and seek medical help immediately.

My niece had a high fever when she was tiny. My sister immediately called their pediatrician, who prescribed infant paracetamol syrup according to her weight. She also did lukewarm sponge baths gently, not cold water, just room temperature. And kept offering breastmilk frequently to keep her hydrated. For infants, medical advice is a must!

High fever in infants is a medical emergency and requires immediate attention from a pediatrician. Do not attempt to self-medicate or rely on home remedies. Go to a good hospital or clinic. Your doctor will prescribe the correct antipyretic medicine and dosage based on the infant's weight and age, and check for the underlying cause. Prompt medical intervention is crucial to prevent complications.

I can only tell you what my pediatrician always advises for my infant's high fever: immediately give the prescribed paracetamol drops in the correct, weight-based dose. Keep them lightly dressed, ensure the room is comfortable, and offer breastmilk/formula frequently. And if the fever doesn't come down or if there are other concerning symptoms, to go to the hospital. Always follow a doctor's guidance for infants.

I remember absolutely panicking when my infant had a high fever for the first time, thinking the worst! But our pediatrician was so reassuring. They told us to give the prescribed paracetamol, do lukewarm sponge baths, and keep them fed. Most fevers are common and clear up, but definitely get professional advice immediately. Don't let the panic take over, but act fast with a doctor's help.

Just like my thyroid needs regular tests and doctor's oversight, an infant's high fever definitely needs a pediatrician's guidance. You can't guess with babies. They'll tell you the exact medicine, dosage, and when to bring them back. Don't waste time on anything else. Hydration and light clothes are fine, but professional help is first.
