How to alleviate sunburn pain?

I spent too much time at the beach yesterday and now I have a really bad sunburn on my shoulders and back. It's red, hot, and quite painful. What can I put on it to alleviate this sunburn pain quickly?

If you got sunburned on a weekend trip, you need quick solutions before Monday morning. Apply fresh aloe vera gel liberally on the area; it cools the skin immediately and absorbs fast so you can dress and get to work. Also, keep a water bottle handy and stay hydrated throughout the day.

Sunburns are so annoying because they can make your regular workouts really uncomfortable due to friction. I'd suggest skipping heavy, sweaty gym sessions for a few days to avoid irritating the skin. If you feel up to it, stick to light indoor walks in loose cotton clothing to keep active without sweating too much.

While your skin is healing on the outside, cool it down from the inside too! Drink lots of fresh coconut water, cold lassi, or eat watermelon slices to keep your body's heat down. For the skin itself, applying a layer of cold dahi (yogurt) on the sunburn works like absolute magic to soothe the sting.

I got a terrible sunburn during a beach trip last year and learned my lesson the hard way. The best trick is to take cool showers—never hot—and apply calamine lotion to reduce the burning sensation. Absolutely avoid peeling any skin yourself, let it heal naturally or you will get scars.

My son got a very painful sunburn during his school sports day last month. I made sure he wore only super soft, oversized cotton t-shirts so nothing would rub against his shoulders. I also kept a bottle of pure aloe vera gel in the fridge and applied the cold gel on his skin every few hours.

I just got back from a trip with a massive sunburn on my face and arms. What saved me was using cold milk compresses; just dip a clean cloth in cold milk and lay it on your skin for 10 minutes. It takes away the stinging sensation almost instantly, honestly.

First of all, stop going out in the harsh afternoon sun without sunscreen, it's that simple. For now, put some cold water compresses on the red areas and do not use any harsh soaps or scrubs on your skin. Just let it heal quietly for a few days.
