How to alleviate shingles pain?

My father recently had shingles, and even though the rash is mostly gone, he's still complaining about severe pain where it was. It's really affecting his sleep and mood. What can we do to help alleviate his shingles pain?

Hey, I know shingles pain is absolutely brutal, but please don't stress too much, okay? Just try to keep the rash clean and wear very loose cotton clothes so nothing rubs against it. Also, taking cool baths can help soothe the burning sensation quite a bit.

Honestly, I completely understand how terrifying and exhausting this pain can feel; it literally kept me awake crying for nights. What helped me calm down was using cool, wet compresses on the blisters every few hours. Please make sure you are in touch with your doctor because getting on antivirals early makes a huge difference.

Look, do not scratch those blisters no matter how much they itch, or you will end up with a nasty skin infection. Just apply some cold compresses and rest as much as possible. If the pain is getting out of hand, go straight back to your doc and ask for proper nerve-pain relief.

When my uncle had shingles, we focused heavily on keeping him happy with light, comforting food like warm dal-rice and fresh coconut water to keep him hydrated. Avoid spicy food for a bit since your body is already dealing with so much heat and irritation. Grab some ice-creams too if you need a little mood lifter!

I had shingles last year and the nerve pain is indeed a different beast. My biggest tip is to apply calamine lotion gently over the lesions once they start drying up to stop the intense itching. Also, do not skip any pain medications your doctor has prescribed, take them right on time.
