How to alleviate piriformis pain?

My physiotherapist said I have piriformis syndrome, and the pain in my buttock and down my leg is quite bad, especially after a long walk. Are there any exercises or home remedies that can help alleviate this specific pain?

I had this bad piriformis syndrome from sitting on a wallet in my back pocket. Seriously, stop keeping anything in your back pocket first. Then start doing the figure-four stretch daily, it releases the glute muscle almost instantly.

No need for costly treatments in the beginning. Just apply a simple hot water bag to the hip area twice a day for 15 minutes. Avoid sitting on low stools or sofas where your knees are higher than your hips.

Bro, sitting on library chairs for semester exams gave me this stupid pain in my right butt cheek. I just use a tennis ball, place it under my glute while sitting on the floor, and roll on it. It hurts like hell but releases the knot.

If you have a desk job, get a standing desk converter or stand up every 45 minutes without fail. Prolonged sitting keeps the piriformis muscle in a shortened, tight state. Doing a quick 2-minute stretch between calls saves me daily.

I have been experiencing a deep ache in my hip area for a week now, especially when climbing stairs. Is this what they call piriformis pain? Please tell me if I should see a physiotherapist or if it will go away with general rest.

haan na, hip pain makes it so difficult to even sit peacefully on an office chair. Try applying a little hot gel and sit on a soft cushion instead of hard chairs. Thoda gentle stretching help karega, but don't force it.

I struggle with hip stiffness and my high blood pressure means I have to be careful with NSAID painkillers. I rely on daily gentle evening walks and basic physical therapy moves. Make sure to keep your doctors informed before taking any random pills.

Sitting for long hours is the main culprit here! Try the pigeon pose stretch, it works like absolute magic to open up tight hips. Keep moving and stay active, you will get through this pain soon!

I hope your pain gets better soon. Just resting your leg and keeping a pillow under your knees while sleeping can give some comfort tonight.

Your piriformis is probably overworking because your glute medius is weak or inactive. Foam rolling your glutes and doing gentle clam-shell exercises will help stabilize your hips. Keep your hydration on point to prevent muscle cramping.

I was just reading up on this because my butt cheek hurts when I sit for too long. Apparently, it is often confused with sciatica because the piriformis muscle presses on the sciatic nerve. Dynamic glute stretches seem to be the most recommended solution online.

Don't sit on it and wait for a miracle. If the glute pain is shooting down your leg, go get a proper diagnosis from an orthopaedic doctor to rule out a herniated disc. A few sessions with a certified physio will fix this easily.

Gentle Kapotasana (Pigeon pose) and Balasana (Child's pose) are highly effective in opening up the pelvic region. Hold the poses gently and breathe deeply into your lower back. Never force the stretch beyond your comfort level.

If your doctor has cleared you for light exercise, walking on a flat surface at a moderate pace is great to keep the muscles warm and active. Avoid running or steep climbing until the acute phase of piriformis inflammation goes down.
