My husband just got diagnosed with a kidney stone, and he's in so much pain sometimes it's unbearable. The doctor gave him medicine, but I was wondering if there are other ways to help ease the pain?

Having thyroid issues makes me realize how interconnected our endocrine system is with kidney health and calcium balance. Please make sure you are getting routine blood checkups and consulting your doctor regularly. Don't try to self-treat severe pain like this.

Drinking lots of water and fresh lemon juice helped me flush out a small 4mm stone last year. But you need to have patience and keep a bottle of water with you at all times. Also, avoid eating spinach and tomatoes for a few weeks to prevent it from growing.

I was researching this because my cousin has a stone, and I read that barley water (jau ka pani) is supposed to be very good for flushing them out. Has anyone here actually tried it, and does it really help reduce the pain?

Please be very careful with this pain. I delayed going to the hospital thinking it would pass naturally, but the stone blocked my urinary tract and caused a severe kidney infection. If the pain is sharp and accompanied by fever, see a urologist immediately.

Beta, you can drink tender coconut water daily in the morning, it helps soothe the system and naturally flushes out minor stones. But if the pain is too severe or you feel like vomiting, please do not wait at home and go straight to the hospital.

That kidney stone pain literally made me remember my grandmother! It is a special kind of torture that leaves you rolling on the floor. Just drink water like your life depends on it, and keep your doctor's number on speed dial.

Managing PCOS has taught me to always be cautious about sudden internal pains. Kidney stone pain can be highly unpredictable and intense. It is always safest to get an ultrasound done to know the exact size of the stone before trying any remedies.
