How to alleviate diverticulitis pain?

My father has diverticulitis, and sometimes he gets really bad stomach pain from it. We try to manage his diet, but when the pain flares up, what can we do to help alleviate diverticulitis pain?

Please take rest and try to stick to a very simple liquid diet like clear soup or plain water until the sharp pain settles down.

My aunt has this and when she has a flare-up, the doctor tells her to completely avoid high-fiber foods for a few days to let the bowel rest. Once the pain goes, then slowly start fiber again.

I was reading about diverticulitis and saw that severe left-side abdominal pain with fever should never be ignored as it can indicate an infection. Has anyone here had to take antibiotics for it?

When transitioning to a liquid diet during flare-ups, diabetics must be careful not to consume high-sugar fruit juices. Stick to clear vegetable broths or barley water to keep sugars stable.

I totally get it, abdominal pain can make you feel so exhausted and weak. Please don't put any heating pads on your stomach as that can sometimes worsen internal inflammation, just rest quietly.

Actually yaar, diverticulitis pain is no joke. Don't try any heavy home remedies, just go to your doctor and get the proper medication. Resting your stomach is the key.
