How the thyroid works?

My doctor recently diagnosed me with a thyroid condition, and I'm trying to learn more about it. I know it's a gland in the neck, but I don't really understand its function. How exactly does the thyroid work in our body?

I tried various herbal waters, but honestly, nothing replaces the small hormone pill your doctor prescribes. The thyroid is very sensitive, so take your regular tests seriously.
