How much sleep do elderly people need?

My sleep patterns have changed a lot over the years. I often wake up early and find it hard to go back to sleep. Can someone tell me how much sleep is recommended for elderly people?

I used to worry a lot about my mother's sleep when she got older because she wasn't sleeping for long stretches at night. But the doctor said 7-8 hours is still needed, just that it might be broken up with naps during the day. It's normal for them to have different sleep patterns, don't panic.

For the elderly, while 7-8 hours is a general guide, changes in sleep can also be a sign of underlying health issues. My uncle started having severe insomnia, and it turned out to be related to his medication. So if you notice drastic changes, please consult a doctor.

Buzurgo ko 7-8 ghante ki neend toh chahiye hi. Din mein thoda araam kar lenge toh raat ko neend na bhi aaye toh chalta hai. Zyada sochna nahi hai, bas unko comfortable mahol do aur khana time pe. Itna hi kaafi hai.

Elderly individuals generally need 7-8 hours of sleep. But if they're constantly fatigued or can't sleep, it might be related to thyroid issues, which are common in older age. Please ensure they get regular blood tests and follow up with their doctor for any symptoms.

Recently, I was struggling with my sleep, and my doctor told me that for my age (late 50s), 7-8 hours is the target. But it's not always a single stretch. Sometimes a good nap in the afternoon helps complete the quota. It's about total rest.

I heard elderly people need less sleep, but then others say 7-8 hours. It's confusing. My parents sleep a lot in the day, then struggle at night. Is this normal? Do other people also see this with their older family members?

I can only share from my family's experience. My grandmother, who is 80, typically gets about 6-7 hours at night but takes a long nap in the afternoon. So for her, it balances out to probably 8-9 hours total. Everyone's needs are a bit different, but good rest is key.

For elderly people, especially if they have diabetes, 7-8 hours of sleep is quite important. Lack of sleep can mess with blood sugar levels. Also, avoid heavy or sugary meals close to bedtime, as that affects sleep quality directly.

Haan ji, buzurgo ko na 7 se 8 ghante ki neend zaroori hai. Meri mummy bhi din mein thoda so leti hai. Toh haan, poori neend milni chahiye unko, tabhi sehat theek rehti hai na.

When my parents faced sleep issues, I took them to a good hospital. The doctors there clearly said 7-8 hours is ideal for elderly. But they also explained that deep sleep decreases with age. So, it's not just quantity, but quality. Ask your doctor specific questions, they will explain well.

For our respected elders, around 7 to 8 hours of sleep is usually sufficient. It's important to create a calm and supportive environment for them. Let them rest peacefully, and remember to always cherish them. All will be well with positive thoughts.
